Record growth in sales of salmon over Christmas
According to the newspaper, Asda said Christmas sales of all of its Scottish-sourced salmon were up 45% while sales of luxury salmon fillets in Sainsbury's increased 116%.
The newspaper also reported that the Queen placed an order for organic salmon before Christmas. Inverawe Smokehouse, in Taynuilt, Argyll, confirmed they had received an order from the Palace.
A spokeswoman for the company, who employ 90 people on the banks of Loch Awe, told the newspaper they were "extremely proud" to supply the royal household.
She said: "Yes, the Queen has placed an order with us and has been placing orders with us for quite some time.
"Of course we are delighted to have her patronage."
