Questions on future of fishing agencies

The Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency and Scottish Fisheries Research Services have both been identified as potential targets in the SNP government's plans to scrap 50 quangos.
It is believed the two will be merged and this has raised questions about potential job losses. North-east Labour MSP Richard Baker has tabled a series of questions in the Scottish Parliament asking for more details and assurances that people will not lose their jobs.
He said: "We all want to see more efficiency in government but the fact is these two agencies have an important role for our fishing industry we need to know what will replace them.
"These decisions can have important economic consequences locally”.
The Fisheries Research Services incorporates Aberdeen's Marine Laboratory and the Scottish Fishery Protection Agency.

Mr Baker added: "I hear very few people arguing for less investment in fishing science at the moment."
The Scottish Government has promised that any changes will not lead to compulsory job losses, the Press & Journal reported.
