Puchi believes that prices will recover
According to the Chilean newspaper La Tercera, after the 30% decrease experienced in salmon prices over the last few weeks, the CEO of Empresas AquaChile, Víctor Hugo Puchi, expects prices to recover. “The salmon industry is always exposed to cycles of prices and this is just another one of them,” he said.
Mr Puchi argues that these current low prices have not been transferred to the final consumer yet. Hence, he expects that once that happens demand will increase and the recovery process in prices will start.
He also explains that the salmon industry adapts itself to ups and downs in prices and corrects its growth rhythm in order to avoid a further decrease. “The good thing is that we have a strong and growing demand that will allow the industry to overcome the current decrease in prices over time,” he said.
