Proposal for technical standard published
The report, which is commissioned by SARF and prepared by Thistle Environmental Partnership, is a result of work by the Improved Containment Working Group (ICWG) and presents the findings of a research project into the development of a Scottish Technical Standard to help prevent escapes.
There is currently no defined standard and no robust audit process in Scotland, and a defined standard that states exactly what equipment is suitable for specific conditions would give confidence not only to the businesses, but also to the planners, regulators and insurers involved with the industry.
However, Steve Bracken, Business Support Manager for Marine Harvest Scotland, who chairs the ICWG, says it will still take time before a standard is enshrined in law, as there will need to be consultations and this will take time.
