Pathogenic ISA discovered

The site, called Punta Lalin, is located in the neighborhood 9B, near Meulin Island in the Region of Los Lagos.

According to the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) the virus was detected by the surveillance programme carried out by the company itself, which duly notified Sernapesca.

Sernapesca subsequently carried out an inspection to the site on June 21st, but it was found that the mortality rate remained low, a situation that represents early detection and timely notification, said Sernapesca.

In order to supervise the sanitary status of this farming site, samples were obtained confirming the positive case and the appropriate control actions were implemented immediately, which started yesterday with the harvest of the positive cage.

The national director of Sernapesca, José Miguel Burgos, said: "The Punta Lalin farm will be permanently monitored by the Service in order to assess its evolution, as well as those farms located in the surrounding area. Likewise, all biosecurity measures associated with the process of harvesting this site will be strengthened".
