One third of all farms operate in Chile
The report details that 42 percent of all salmon farms were in operation in the 10th Region (Los Lagos) in the first three months of this year. Likewise, 30 percent of all salmon farms was operating in the 11th Region (Aysén) and 28 percent was operating in the 12th Region (Magellan). By contrast, 62 percent of all mussel farms was in operation in the period.
If those fish in the southern regions (Los Lagos, Aysén and Magellan) are itemized by the different growth stages, 20 percent of these salmon farms raised adults, 12 percent of them had smolts, 7 percent farmed juveniles, 2 percent had fry and 1 percent held breeders.
