Olympic endorsement for ASC
The organizing committee has pledged that all the farmed seafood cosumed in the Olympic village will be ASC certified, and preferably locally produced. This major event represents consumption of about 14 million meals for attendants, organizers, athletes and press at on-site restaurants.
ASC has launched a new film entitled “Transforming Aquaculture in the State of Rio de Janeiro” which supports the efforts of the area, its aquaculture industry and the Olympic committee to improve the environmental and social effects of aquaculture in the region. This film was seen for the first time yesterday at the Seafood Expo North America in Boston.
Senior commercial manager of ASC, Esther Luiten, said: “We will welcome any major event to come and talk with us to discuss it, because we do believe these kind of events are an important catalyst to inform and educate general consumers globally and that is the best platform in order for the producers' sector to show the responsibility they are taking”.
