Norwegian trout exports down 9.5%
Indeed, the first FAO Globefish European Price Report of the year claims that: “The Norwegian trout industry attempted to mitigate the impact of the Russian ban in much the same manner as their salmon counterparts. However, while salmon markets are highly diverse and globalized, Russia traditionally represents a sizeable proportion of Norway’s entire trout export market and thus some negative effects were inevitable.
“This has meant a 9.5% drop in Norwegian trout export volumes in 2014, according to the Norwegian Seafood Council, although good early year prices have seen total export revenue remain approximately flat, year-on-year.
“Meanwhile, trout prices in Italy are reported to have remained stable in December, with a stagnating market and traded volumes below usual levels.”
