Norway’s SN Power investing US$ 1 billion in Chile

Established in 2002, the Norwegian hydropower company SN Power has already become a leader Latin American energy production. As Nils Huseby, vice president of SN Power Latin America states, “SN Power’s strategy is to grow through acquisitions in selected regions. Our goal is to be a major player in the Latin American renewable energy sector, developing, owning and operating economically, socially and environmentally sustainable power projects with a long term perspective". According to La Estrategia, SN Power plans to invest approximately US$ 1 billion in the development of four hydroelectric projects in Chile’s IX Region, together with the Chilean company Centinela, which should generate 600 MW of power in total per year, starting by the year 2013. The Region IX is where nearly 70% of the salmon industry’s smolt production is focused.
