The new Intendant lives in Puerto Varas where he headed a law firm together with his wife until last week, Montes is also faculty teacher in the Business School of the Adolfo Ibáñez University. He has post degrees in Philosophy and Economy and a PhD in Management Science from IESE-Universidad de Navarra (Spain).

Besides, Juan Sebastián Montes worked some years ago as general manager in the salmon producer company AquaChile and had the same position in the local fish feed company Salmofood.

Probably his major hobby is climbing; liking that has leaded him to several mountains throughout Chile, Argentina, Yosemite (USA), the Alps and the Himalayas. In 1992 he climbed the Everest Mountain without supplementary oxygen through one of the hardest tracks (Kangshung).
