Multiexport's production decreased 2.9% in the first half-year
According with the 2Q 2009 report submitted by the company, for the semester, production was 13,811 tons (WFE), a 38.9% decrease on the same period in 2008.
The company's total income was USD 89.7 million in the first half of 2009, compared to USD 97.7 million in the same period in 2008, representing an 8.2% decrease. Besides, Multiexport's EBITDA was USD -34.6 million in the first semester of 2009, compared to the USD 0.5 million in the same period of the last year.
On the other hand, the company showed a loss of USD -48.7 million in the first semester of 2009, compared to the USD -11.4 million in the same period in 2008. This loss is mainly explained by the sales of frozen inventory products from facilities affected by the ISA virus, which were harvested early and stored during 2008; the seaweed bloom that affected a significant part of the inventory of live Atlantic salmon in the 11th Region (Aysén), which was penalized based on a preliminary estimate of losses from the associated mortality; and the elimination provisions for freshwater breeding excess product (safety margins), and market test from market to harvest during the second semester.
