According to Multiexport, this sale decrease is explained due to the strong fall experienced in the price of Atlantic salmon and Rainbow trout during the first six months of this year compared to the same period of 2011. This situation was partially offset by an increased sales volume which went from 20.072 tonnes in the first half-year of 2011 to 21.478 in the same period of this year.

Additionally, there was an 29.6 percent increase in the harvest volume of Atlantic salmon, from 16.460 tonnes to 21.335 tonnes. In contrast, there was a 284.8 percent decrease in the harvest volume of 3.236 tonnes to 841 tonnes.

Salmones Multiexport had an EBIT of US$ -1.09 million in the first half-year of 2012, compared to the US$ 39.48 million obtained by the salmon division of Multiexport Foods in the same period of 2011.

Likewise, the company obtained an EBIT of US$ -0.08 per Kg of Atlantic salmon WFE in the first half-year which compares negatively to the US$ 2.47 achieved in the same period of 2011. Meanwhile Salmones Multiexport recorded an EBIT of US$ 0.30 per Kg of Rainbow trout WFE in the first half-year of 2012 compared to the US$ 0.59 obtained in the same period of the previous year.
