Multiexport posted record profit in first-quarter

Multiexport also reported sales of 10,713 tonnes of salmonids worth US$ 76.6 million in the period, which represent a 56.8% increase compared to Q1 2010. This sales volume is itemized in 7,721 tonnes of Atlantic salmon and 2,992 tonnes of Rainbow trout.

Meanwhile, the company posted an operational EBIT of US$ 20.8 million in the first-quarter of this year, representing a significant increase compared to the US$ 1.6 million obtained in the first three months of 2010. Moreover, the salmon division of the firm posted net income of US$ 10.5 million, up from US$ 6.3 million in the same three months of last year, representing a 66.2% increase.

According to the company, these results confirm that Multiexport is the most profitable Chilean company with an operational EBIT per kilo of raw material of US$ 1.9 in the period and an operational EBIT of US$ 2.5 per kilo of Atlantic salmon.

Finally, Multiexport stated that they are the largest Chilean producers of Atlantic salmon and this year the company expects this species to represent 80% of its production.

Regarding its behavior in the local stock exchange (SSE), Bloomberg reported that the company advanced in Santiago, reversing an earlier decline. Multiexport climbed 2.1% to 232.74 pesos after earlier sliding as much as 1.3%.
