Multiexport posted losses of US$ 34.6 million in 2012
Christian Pérez The salmon division of Multiexport had sales of US$ 253.8 million last year, representing a 8.8 percent decrease compared to the result obtained by the firm in 2011 (US$ 278.3 million). According to the company, this sale decrease is explained due to the strong fall experienced in the price of Atlantic salmon and Rainbow trout in 2012 compared to the previous year. However, this situation was partially offset by a 26.3 percent increase in the sales volume, which went from 34,444 tonnes WFE in 2011 to 43,488 tonnes WFE in 2012. Additionally, there was a 39.2 percent increase in the harvest volume of Atlantic salmon, from 28,807 tonnes in 2011 to 40,100 tonnes last year. Likewise, there was a 22,3 percent increase in the harvest volume of Rainbow trout, from 6,537 tonnes to 7,997 tonnes. The company had a negative EBIT of US$ -19.6 million in 2012, representing a significant decrease compared to the US$ 60.7 million obtained by the salmon division of Multiexport Foods in 2011. Likewise, the company obtained an EBIT of US$ -0.46 per Kg of Atlantic salmon WFE in 2012 which compares negatively to the US$ 1.94 achieved in 2011. Meanwhile the salmon division of Multiexport Foods recorded an EBIT of US$ -0.35 per Kg of Rainbow trout WFE in 2012 compared to the US$ 0.70 obtained in the previous year.
