Multiexport Foods quickly gaining ground with mussels
The sub-company Multiexport Mytilus of Multiexport Foods reached its goal of entering the European market with value-added products of Chilean mussels (mytilus chilensis) by the year 2007. The company’s first year of harvests resulted in 5,472 tons, with export sales of US$ 385 thousand, and a profit of US$ 101 thousand. According to Aqua.cl, currently the primary markets for the Chilean mussel are France (21,5%), Spain (20,1%) and Italy (14,7%). The exports of Chilean mussels by November of 2007 reached US$ 84.6 million.
