Last Thursday Marine Harvest announced that they will reduce their personnel in Chile, the Labor undersecretary, Mauricio Jélvez, clarified the situation. He said, based on information of SalmonChile, that this plan is in accordance  with the estimates made months ago, when they announced approximately 10.000 works would be laid off between March and December this year as an effect of the ISA virus.

Mauricio Jélvez said to La Tercera that he wants "a containment of the laid off". On one hand, the companies would begin to contract personnel by the end of September, approximately 2.500 persons, as consequence of the beginning of the coho season. These employments would last until March.

Jélvez said that the companies have looked for activities to stay active. The undersecretary also said that the employment plan created by the Government for the salmon sector is helping to improve the labor situation.
