More than 30 farms with heavy parasitic abundances
Between the weeks 39th and 45th of this year 32 farming sites have been reported as with an average abundance of adult lice (Caligus rogercresseyi) per fish equal or higher than 9 parasites per fish according to the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) .
These sites, known as Sites of Large Spread or CAD, are mainly concentrated in the region of Aysén. Only 10 of them are located in the region of Los Lagos of which 4 are placed nearby Puerto Montt (in the neighborhoods 2, 3B and 17B).
In turn, those 22 CAD reported in the region of Aysén are mainly located in the sorroundings of Melinka with 10 farming sites, particularly in the neighborhoods 18A, 18D, 18E and 34.
Finally, of those 32 total CAD only 6 sites were farming Rainbow trout, while the rest was stocked with Atlantic salmon. Meanwhile, 7 CAD were being harvested last week, one was being early harvested while the other 24 sites were in the process of fattening.
