More Scottish salmon products withdrawn
An initial alert last week led to the multiple retailer Morrisons withdrawing its fresh Scottish salmon (excluding organic fresh salmon). The agency has now been informed that a number of other products and brands could possibly be affected and, as a precaution it has announced another recall of salmon products. Customers are urged to return the produce. The salmon has been supplied by Marine Harvest to Morrisons, as well as to Young's Seafood, which produces own-brand products as well as pre-packed fish for other retailers.
Now, chains including Asda, Tesco, Somerfield, Sainsbury’s, Co-Op, Budgens, ShopRite, Booths and Nisa-Today have recalled several salmon products.
Marine Harvest is currently investigating the cause of the taint. The company believes that the source of contamination is diesel from a well boat. Based on the information received by the Agency, the chemicals causing the problem are present at low levels and are very unlikely to be a health risk.
