During AquaChile’s annual Sustainability Report that the company presents to its managing departments, union leaders and the public authorities, CEO Victor Hugo Puchi took a moment to emphasize the need for pro-active reform throughout the industry. “The [sanitary] situation has become an enormous challenge for the industry. We must question ourselves about the sustainability of our industry under the current operational practices and the regulatory framework. We must recognize the errors we’ve committed as an industry and those of the authorities in their role of opportune enforcement of regulations.” According to Aqua.cl Puchi mentioned each point of bio-security control that must be improved upon, starting with the importation of eggs. “We must stop immediately the importation of eggs. Our industry will not resist the arrival of more imported disease,” states Puchi emphatically, with his concern directed at the threat of Pancreas Disease. He also mentioned the need to reduce the production volumes per farm site and redesign the transport systems for the industry.
