Salmon price started the year with an increase

The spot price for Norwegian salmon rose by NOK 2.19/kg to NOK 88.71/kg (£7.29/kg) in week 1 of 2023,figures from industry statistics provider Akvafakta show.

That price is NOK 23.39/kg higher than in the same week in 2022. Prices for Scottish salmon are generally higher than those for Norwegian fish.

Norway, the world’s biggest producer of farmed salmon, exported 21,662 tonnes (round weight) of salmon during week 1. That’s 150 tonnes more than the last week of 2022 but 17.6% less volume than in week 1 last year.

Average weekly volume for the past four weeks is also below what it was a year ago, with a 4.7% reduction.
