A statement from the animal nutrition and aquafeed giant said the search for his replacement will begin immediately.

In 1993 Rafferty started with Marine Harvest which was then acquired by Nutreco. In 2005 he became Marine Harvest’s chief financial officer after periods in Scotland, Chile and the US. The company was divested by Nutreco in 2007 and Rafferty rejoined Nutreco in 2012.

Nutreco chief executive Knut Nesse said: “We are very thankful for Steven’s contribution to Nutreco during the nearly two decades he served our company. During his last tenure, our fish feed business maintained a strong and consistent performance and growth. We wish him a lot of success going forward.”

Rafferty will continue to be available to Nutreco and Skretting until September to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities.

Nutreco has more than 100 production plants in 35 countries and 11 research and development centres in seven countries.
