The barge was built and designed by Akva in the Estonian port of Tallinn, following a close working partnership between Dawnfresh Farming’s Sean Lydon and Helen Morgan and the AKVA barge team in Tallinn, who were co-ordinating the build. Sean said: “This barge has exceeded the high expectations I had of the finished quality of an Akva barge and the turn key service provided by Akva at installation, including training and commissioning, has resulted is a very fast and efficient start up time”. Akva steel barges are designed to withstand rough conditions, are easy to disinfect and recyclable. Paint is now guaranteed for 5 years on all Akva barges and this barge was given added protection with a metallised finish. Other features include an internal camera monitoring system and a doubly insulated engine room to ensure a quiet operation. The barge can carry 240 tonnes of feed and the main purpose is to provide the most efficient, flexible and optimised central feeding and monitoring system. The barge also provides a safe and comfortable working environment with full overview and control of all the systems. The latest feeding and integrated feedback monitoring technology can now be monitored and controlled remotely from a shore base using the Akva Connect software platform.
