Cleaner Fish Veterinarian

Cleaner Fish Veterinarian

We are currently looking to identify a suitably qualified or experienced veterinarian with strong foresight and organization skills to undertake the role of Cleaner Fish Veterinarian.  

The Cleaner Fish Veterinarian is responsible for the health of the entire MHS cleaner fish stocks, including both wrasse and lumpsuckers, and across the different production stages (hatcheries and seawater on growing).  

The successful candidate should be a sharp individual, with good understanding of production needs, and ability to solve problems in a practical way. This is a challenging post which involves both field and office work. Candidates should be willing to travel around sites and work under unfavorable weather conditions. 

The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of Fish Health and work closely with the Cleaner Fish Production Manager and the Cleaner Fish Department, as well as the rest of the Health Team. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an aptitude for working independently, have the ability to apply common sense, motivate and train site staff, as well as an ability to proactively participate in fish health decisions.  


Responsible for 

Monitoring fish health and welfare 

Making clinical judgments and implementing corrective measures where necessary 

Take responsibility for the monitoring and surveillance plans for general fish health 

Taking an analytical approach to interpreting production and health data 

Provide scientific expertise with regards to animal health, biology and physiology 

Train of site health observers 

Control of medicine stocks 

Involvement in R&D projects 


Role Requirements 

A degree in Veterinary Medicine, or equivalent, is required. Candidates should be eligible to register with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Candidates with a degree in Fish Health Biology will also be eligible and are welcome to apply. 

Experience working as a fish veterinarian or farm animal veterinarian is preferred, but not essential. 

As extensive travelling is a feature of the job, a current driving licence is essential.
