Search for Norwegian fish farm worker’s body ends
Police in Norway have given up the search for the body of a 32-year-old salmon farm worker who went missing in a boat accident off the coast of Lurøy, just south of the Arctic Circle, on November 29 and is presumed dead.
The chief of police for the Nordland Police District decided to end the search for the Lovundlaks employee on February 3.
“There were two people on board in the boat when it crashed,” said Hege Viken, head of the Rana police station district.
Sonar searches
“The two had been at work, on their way back to shore when the accident happened, probably northeast of Solværøyan. HRS (sea rescue service) coordinated a rescue operation where a person was picked up alive and sent to hospital.
“After extensive exploration at sea and on land the other person on board has not been found. There have been sonar searches on the seabed and beach searches in the area.
“A number of searches for the missing person have been conducted through the period including, last weekend, a beach search in collaboration with the Red Cross.”
