Norwegian salmon farmers put more fish in sea
Norwegian salmon farmers set out 33 million smolts last month, an increase of 26% from the same period last year, according to figures from industry statistics organisation Akvafakta.
At the end of June, the country’s salmon farms had a standing biomass of 678,000 tonnes, up 9% from 2018.
Norway exported 95,000 tonnes of salmon in June, a drop of 3% compared to June 2018, although export value increased 2% to 5.7 billion NOK (£533m).
Feed consumption in June increased by 14% to 141,000 tonnes.
Standing biomass of trout in June was 41,000 tonnes, up 24% compared to the same month last year.
A total of 6,600 tonnes of trout was exported, an increase of 73% on June 2018. Total export value was NOK 330m, 50% higher than in June 2018.
