Mowi Scotland sales chief to leave after 27 years

Mowi Scotland has announced that its long-serving head of sales, Georgina Wright, has decided to leave the company after 27 years.

Wright began her Mowi career in 1994 with McConnell Salmon, which then became Marine Harvest, now Mowi. Her progression followed the many merges and acquisitions of the business to become Mowi as it is today, working for both Scotland and Norway business units.

Andreas Soraa, Mowi’s managing director of raw materials and trade, said: “I have worked with Georgina for several years and, while I am sorry to see her depart, I would like to thank her for the dedication, commitment and passion she’s brought to her role and to Mowi. I’m sure all who have worked with her as friends and colleagues will join me in wishing her all the very best for the future.”

First mover

Commenting on nearly three decades with the world’s biggest salmon farmer, Wright said: “Mowi’s evolution toward an integrated value chain has enabled our company to be ‘first mover’ which has helped lead the way on many key developments in Scotland.

“These have included sourcing vegetable oils as a partial replacement of fish oil and being the first Scottish salmon company to export to mainland China.

“Mowi holding the Royal Warrant of Appointment for the supply of fresh Scottish salmon – a 600-year-old tradition that approves merchants to supply goods and services to the Royal Household and the right to use the Royal Arms in connection with their business – is something I’ve been very proud to be a part of.”

Mowi joins other warrant holders next week at Holyrood as events throughout the UK take place to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Smoothing out Brexit

Most recently, Wright chaired the Scottish Salmon Industry Brexit Working Group, bringing together all Salmon Scotland member companies, to ensure the industry was best prepared for the complications of Brexit.

“Mowi’s successful export of the first truck of Scottish seafood into the EU on Saturday, 2 January 2021 as Brexit dawned has been a more recent highlight for sure,” said Wright.

The sector-wide Brexit collaboration including hauliers, Seafood Scotland and Scotland Food & Drink has been shortlisted for a “Collaboration Award” at the Aquaculture Awards being presented as part of Aquaculture UK in Aviemore on May 4.

‘An amazing sector’

“It is good to leave on a market high,” said Wright. “It has been a privilege to work in such an amazing sector for such a long period of time. I would like to thank the many colleagues and customers all around the world that I have had the pleasure of working with over the past three decades. The passion the salmon sector has for its wonderful product is second to none.”

Wright will leave Mowi at the end of the month.
