Lice imprisonment

The Finnmark-based manager was originally sentenced to 90 days for under-reporting sea lice numbers, although this sentennce was reduced to 30 days by the Supreme Court of Norway last week.

This is the first time the Supreme Court  has processed a criminal case from the aquaculture industry, so the judgment will have important implications for similar criminal cases in the future.

"This judgment will now be significant for several farming issues," Attorney Aud Slettemoen (pictured) from Økokrim told NRK.

"This is a clear signal to the industry, supervision and police and prosecuting authorities, that this should be taken seriously and that such type of offense should be met with strict reaction," Slettemoen added.
