Is a merger on the cards in Iceland?

Icelandic salmon farmers Ice Fish Farm AS and Laxar Fiskeldi Ehf have entered into strategic discussions.

Ice Fish Farm said in a stock exchange announcement that it had today begun talking to Laxar Fiskeldi EHF “for the purpose of exploring strategic opportunities between the companies going forward”.

It said it would provide further information “if and when the discussions have progressed and materialised into something more specific”.

Ice Fish Farm expects to harvest 8,700 tonnes this yea, and expects a harvest volume of 15,500 tonnes next year.

Laxar Fiskeldi farms salmon in Reyðarfjörður, where it has a licence to produce 16,000 tonnes.
