Improvements despite lice

Despite reporting problems with sea lice in Shetland, Scottish Sea Farms (SSF) reports that operating profit per kg gutted weight came to NOK 11.57 (£0.98) in Q1, up from NOK 0.82 (£0.07) per kg in the previous quarter and from NOK 7.72 (£0.65) per kg in the first quarter of 2015.

SSF is known as Norskott Havbruk by its joint Norwegian owners, Salmar and Lerøy Seafood Group (LSG), and its results were in Salmar’s Q1 report, which was published this morning.

The company harvested a total of 7,000 tonnes in Q1 – 700 tonnes more than in the previous quarter and 1,400 tonnes more than in the first quarter 2015.

Gross operating revenues were NOK 421.6 million (£35.76m) in the first quarter 2016, up from NOK 367.2 million in the previous quarter and from NOK 324.6 million (£31.15) in the first quarter 2015.

Contract sales accounted for 51 per cent of the volume harvested during the quarter.  The company expects to harvest around 26,000 tonnes in 2016.
