On average, salmon consumption has increased by 5 per cent in Europe between the years 2012 and 2015, 8 per cent in the United States, 12 per cent in Greater China, 8 per cent in Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations[1]), 15 per cent in Latin America and 4 per cent in other markets.

By contrast, according to data analyzed by ABG Sundal Collier and published by Aquachile, the Russian market experienced a 17 per cent decrease in Atlantic salmon consumption between 2012 and 2015, while Japan experienced a 1 per cent decrease.

This reduced demand from Russia has been absorbed by Europe and other markets, proving the strength of the European market, says the report.

The global supply of Atlantic salmon is expected to reduce by 7 per cent, falling to 2.14 million tonnes, while next year there should be a 3 per cent increase, up to 2.19 million tonnes.
