Fish farm concept firms lose their appeals
Two Norwegian companies have lost their appeals against the rejection of development permits for novel salmon farms.
Osland Aquaculture had applied for six permits for its “Rock-solid” concept, a cylindrical concrete vessel placed directly on the seabed. Foundations of the tank could be adapted to both a soft and hard bottom.
It was intended that inlet water should be fetched from 30-50 metres deep, and the water height inside the vessel could vary with the tide.
The plant was intended for placement near the shoreline.
Floating terminal
Havkar AS has applied for permits for its Aqua Terminal concept, which consists of an octagonal floating terminal, which is surrounded by six rectangular salmon farming cages, in addition to a dock for wellboats.
The concept aimed to solve challenges related to salmon lice, escape, discharge and area use.
Both concepts were rejected by Norway’s Fisheries Directorate because they were regarded as not being innovative enough.
