Expanding the company

The managing director of Fjord Seafood Scotland - soon to become Outer Hebrides Seafood - outlined plans for the company’s future at this week’s board meeting of the Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation (SSPO). According to the newspaper Press & Journal, Alan Anderson told SSPO directors that the company aims to take advantage of a growing market for added-value salmon products by expanding its range and production capacity over the next few years. The new company, created as a stand-alone business by Norway-based parent firm Pan Fish, following a merger with Marine Harvest and Fjord Seafood Scotland, also plans to develop an Outer Hebrides brand to link in with a wider marketing campaign led by Western Isles Council and Western Isles Enterprise, the newspaper reported. Mr Anderson had told Press & Journal that the firm aimed to build on its already strong reputation by developing investment plans for the expansion of processing and farming operations. SSPO chief executive Sid Patten said: "It is extremely encouraging that Outer Hebrides Seafood is to develop investment plans designed to capitalise on the burgeoning market for added value products such as smoked salmon."
