NightShift’s volunteers provide nightly outreach to homeless people who are struggling with poverty and addiction in Whalley, a suburb located 25 minutes east of Vancouver, B.C.

Last week, Cargill Aqua Nutrition (EWOS) Canada donated $20,000 to NightShift.

The organization offers meals, clothing, crisis counselling, basic nursing, a mobile library and prayer services every single night, rain or shine.

Whalley maintains its reputation for being an area where the homeless find refuge on the streets. Many of the people struggle with addictions, mental illnesses and other socio-economic issues that have resulted in homelessness. The area is known for crime, drug abuse and prostitution.

According to the Lookout Society, a group that counts the number of people living on the steets, the homeless population in Whalley grew by one third between 2014 and 2017, climbing from 403 to 602 people in an area that covers 10 city blocks.
