Funchal will host Aquaculture Europe 2021, which can now accommodate more visitors.

Capacity raised for Aquaculture Europe

Capacity for the Aquaculture Europe 2021 event to be held in Madeira in October has been increased, delighting organisers.

“The announcement by the Regional Government of Madeira that events can now take place on the island with 75% seating capacity (up from 50%) comes as great news. It means that many of us will finally be able to meet up again,” said the European Aquaculture Society (EAS) in a press release.

“Having also received official approval from the Madeiran Health Authority to hold the event, we can now scale up operations and planning.”

No quarantine from UK

Although international travel remains severely restricted because of Covid, Madeira is one of the easiest places to visit. Visitors from the UK and EU-EEA countries are not required to quarantine provided they have completed a travel questionnaire and have taken an RT-PCR test 72 hours before travel and uploaded the result.

Visitors who have recovered from Covid-19 in the last 90 days or have had both doses of the vaccine at least 15 days prior to travel, are exempt from showing a RT-PCR test on entry. Visitors from the UK must show an NHS letter to demonstrate vaccination status. Other travellers will need to show a medical report as evidence of vaccinations.

At the moment, Portugal (including Madeira) is one the UK’s amber list of countries, which means visitors must quarantine at home for 10 days on their return to the UK and take two Covid tests during that period.

Programme grid

The abstract submission deadline for oral-preferred abstracts has now passed and the session chairs are building their sessions. The programme grid for the event is online at the EAS site. The deadline for submitting abstracts for Eposter presentation is August 28.

Aquaculture Europe attracts academics, students and fish farmers and suppliers. Aquaculture Europe 2021 will be held in the Madeiran capital, Funchal, from October 4-7.

Getting back to normal

The EAS event is the second of four large academic aquaculture gatherings happening this year as vaccination against Covid allows face-to-face events to once again take place.

The first is Aquaculture America 2021, being held in San Antonio, Texas, from August 11-14.

The World Aquaculture Society (WAS) is holding World Aquaculture 2021 in Merida, Mexico, from November 8-12, and staging the delayed World Aquaculture 2020 in Singapore on December 5-8.
