Bakkafrost Q1 harvest up by 1,500 tonnes year on year

The Faroe Islands’ biggest fish farmer, Bakkafrost, harvested 13,700 tonnes of salmon (head on gutted) in the first quarter of 2019, it said in a market update today.

Bakkafrost harvested 6,700 tonnes in its Farming North sector and 7,000 tonnes in Farming West. The harvest total is an increase on the same period last year, when Bakkafrost harvested 12,200 tonnes.

The company’s feed subsidiary, Havsbrún, sold 16,300 tonnes (Q1 2018: 14,000t) of feed in Q1 2019 and sourced 114,000 tonnes (130,000t) of raw materials during the period.
