Following yesterday's planning approval, Marine Harvest has announced a number of new appointments to deliver its £93m fish feed plant on the Isle of Skye.
Mick Watts, Project Director and Global Engineer has already moved to Skye, where the new plant is to be built, and will oversee the construction and commissioning – as he did previously with the company’s Bjugn plant, in Norway, in 2014.
Reflecting on his appointment, he said: “This is a great opportunity to build a partnership with the local community throughout the project development. Once we are operational we will not only have the direct workforce but will be aiming to establish a local supply chain in the same manner as we did in Norway. The opportunity for generating sustainable jobs in the area cannot be understated and I am really looking forward to encouraging as much of this as possible.”
Ewan MacColl has been appointed Operations Director Processing & Feed Scotland. It has also been confirmed that Claes Jonermark, Operations Director Europe, will continue to operate the company’s main production site in Norway and will also be actively involved in the commissioning and set-up associated with the Scottish plant.
Ben Hadfield, Chief Operating Officer Feed and Managing Director of Marine Harvest Scotland, welcomed the new appointments, saying: “This is a major investment for the company and we have brought together an experienced team who have already proved themselves on previous projects.
“We now have a great combination of outstanding technical expertise and experience in both construction and operation, together with excellent local knowledge and understanding.”
Marine Harvest Scotland now employs 640 people in its Farming Operations and 500 people in its Consumer Products Division at Rosyth. Recruitment for the new feed mill will start soon.
