Yesterday, November 17th, in the framework of the ISA Surveillance and Control Programme, Chile's National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) reported the detection of the HPR 2D strain of ISA virus in one cage of the farming site Ninualac, belonging to the company Salmones Blumar and located in the neighborhood 21 C, in the Region of Aysén.

In front of the negative result analysis to HPR0 (nonpathogenic strain) received last Friday, Sernapesca activated its monitoring procedures and sent veterinarians to the affected site on Sunday, which made an assessment of the sanitary situation and collected samples for laboratory analysis.

Meanwhile, Sernapesca triggered a sanitary campaign to strengthen surveillance in other farming sites located in the same neighborhood and those nearby of higher risk.

The national director of Sernapesca, Jose Miguel Burgos, said they are "taking all available measures to prevent existing hazards of spreading the virus, establishing weekly monitoring in the farming site to evaluate its progress and safeguarding biosafety procedures."

Meanwhile, the deputy director of Aquaculture at Sernapesca, Alicia Gallardo, said that the harvest of the cage involved has already been requested and will start today, under strict supervision of Sernapesca at both, the farm and destination, to protect the sanitary condition of other susceptible sites.
