Celebrate salmon says Landsburgh
The chief of the Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation says the "success and ongoing benefit to Scotland" of Label Rouge salmon should be a cause for celebration.
Speaking to fishfarmingexpert.com, Scott Landsburgh said: "The Label Rouge standard is owned, set and audited by the French Ministry for Agriculture and Fisheries. It is entirely up to them what it covers and that it is published in French. Scottish salmon was given this award for its superior quality and taste as defined by the Label Rouge authorities.
"It has opened doors to the French export market and many others around the world bringing long term economic and employment benefits to Scotland.
"We are celebrating that success and ongoing benefit to Scotland. It’s a pity that some people don’t seem to agree with this.”
Landsburgh earlier suggested Scottish Green Party MSP Mark Ruskell was "misinformed" when the politician raised a motion in the Scottish Parliament questioning the validity of Label Rouge accreditation for Scottish salmon.
Ruskell has claimed "Label Rouge do not have any environmental standards and currently only publish their ‘strict criteria’ in French".
