Located in Clayoquot Sound, near Tofino, Cermaq’s Mussel Rock farm was certified according to the Aquaculture Stewardship Council's (ASC) standard last week.

After an extensive audit process, this new certification brings the number of ASC-certified farms operated by Cermaq to three.

“Achieving this standard shows we don’t just talk about sustainability,” said Laurie Jensen, Cermaq Canada’s Communications and Corporate Sustainability Manager. “It shows we make a significant effort to keep our environmental impacts low, and be responsible salmon farmers.”

Last year Cermaq Canada was able to get two farms in Clayoquot Sound certified to the ASC standard, which was published in 2012 after years of work in development by environmental groups, scientists, salmon farmers and government representatives.

There are two more farm sites that have been audited and are currently awaiting the final decision from the ASC.

As part of the Global Salmon Initiative (GSI), Cermaq Canada, along with all members of the BC Salmon Farmer's Association, have committed to having all farm sites certified to the standard by 2020.
