Bakkafrost’s new vessel, which will be named Róland after one of the brothers who founded the company in 1968, was acquired on 24 February.

It will be identical to the company’s latest service vessel Martin, which will have its official reception ceremony tomorrow in Glyvrar.

A Bakkafrost spokesman said: “The investment is yet another initiative in Bakkafrost’s strategy of sustainable delousing without the use of chemicals.”

The Róland, which was built in 2001, has a maximum speed of 14.3 knots. It is 71.9 metres long, 16 metres wide and its deadweight is 3246 tonnes. It will be delivered to Bakkafrost in June this year.
