Aquaculture at forefront of awards shortlist

Loch Duart Salmon and the Scottish Salmon Company have been shortlisted in the export category of this year’s Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Awards, alongside Keith Brewery.

Wester Ross Fisheries and the Scottish Salmon Company are on a shortlist of two in the innovation category, while Loch Fyne Oysters finds itself up against Macleod Organics and the Tomatin Distillery Co in the environment category.

Salar Smokehouse Flaky Smoked Salmon is shortlisted in the healthier food and drink category, and the South Uist enterprise is also one of six firms competing the New Business Award.

Tobermory Fish Company, which sells smoked trout and salmon, is one of six firms in with a chance of being named Independent Retailer of the Year.

The Scottish Salmon Company’s Native Hebridean Salmon is shortlisted in the new products section.

The awards will be held for the 13th time on Friday, October 20 at the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness.
