As well as being broadcast directly to a packed conference room, the seminar has been streamed directly on all Salmon View Media Group's web pages. In Chile, the seminar was transmitted through the company's web page salmonexpert.cl. In the UK and Canada via fishfarmingexpert.com, and in Norway and the Nordic region via kyst.no.

Proceedings were kicked off by Nofima’s Bendik Fyhn Terjesen, who spoke on the production of large smolts. John Richmond from Marine Harvest Scotland told about their new recycling plant for the production of smolts. Oscar Garay from Chile gave an update on the status of RASs in Norway and Chile, referring to the enormous development in use of recirculation technology from 2001 until today.

Arve Gravdal, the man behind Niri, who has extensive plans for land-based salmon production, gave an insight into the evolution of the development as he has now started in Scotland, where he has built one of the world's largest tanks for land-based aquaculture, which he plans to follow up with even bigger tanks of 6,000 cubic metres – based on simple, cheap construction, which can easily be set up worldwide.

Gijs Rutjes from Coppens talked about feeding regimes and the challenges related to feed in recycling systems. Coppens was recently purchased by Alltech, and there are plans for the company to produce smolt feeds in time. Angela Ashby from the Fish Vet Group in Scotland talked about fish health challenges in recirc systems.

The penultimate talk was delivered by Ron Stotish of Aqua Bounty, who spoke about the difficult road leading up to approval of the company's genetically modified salmon in the United States. See separate story about Aqua Bounty and Ron Stotish.

Last out was Kristine Albrechtsen from Pentair, one of the major suppliers of equipment for the recycling plant.

Several of the presentations will be followed up with their own features on our website and in our magazines.
